ABOUT MODERN ECONOMY![]() Modern Economy sales began in 2006 with a simple goal: to support independent designers by providing them with an outlet to sell their samples and overstocked goods. It's truly a win-win situation for indie designers and consumers alike, especially for budget-minded design enthusiasts who get to furnish their lifestyle with the wares they crave while maintaining the sanity of their pocketbooks. Over the past two years, we've also extended this relationship to independent retail stores--helping relieve them of slow-moving stock or helping them with a store closing. And lately, Modern Economy sales have been described as a sustainable retail practice (we like that!) as we often sells things that designers may discard: items with minor faults like ceramics with an uneven glaze or a pillow with a misplaced label. Modern Economy is a division of the Mateo Ilasco company, based in Berkeley, California. We typically hold 2-3 sales a year in places like San Francisco and Los Angeles. Our first sale outside of California will be in Portland, Oregon in July 2008. And since we've gotten so many requests to go out east, New York and Philadelphia are also on our radar. To stay in the loop, we recommend getting on our mailing list to be notified of the details of every sample sale.
We know at times that "affordable modern design" can seem like a paradoxical phrase especially for individuals with
the unfortunate pairing of discerning tastes and shallow pockets. But we're hoping to change that. Thanks for visiting Modern Economy. See you at the next sale!
